Katniss was dressed in a black unitard that glowed like embers. Cinna helped her out of the chariot after her last wave to the crowd and she took his hand, climbing out of the raised chariot. Her and Peeta went to meet up with Haymitch, who was talking to two people who were unfamiliar to Katniss, but who were two other Tributes themselves, Seeder and Chaff. She smiled, knowing they were from Rue’s District and the thought of Rue warmed her heart.
Soon, her thoughts were disturbed by no one other that a Johnanna Mason, who seemed too proud for her costume. Katniss stood there is bewilderment as Peeta smirked secretly. But again, Katniss’s thoughts were interupted, this time by Finnick, who Katniss didn’t even know was there.
She jumped slightly, startled by his sudden appearance. She wanted to slap him for sneaking up on her like that, but she help that emotion close to her. “Finnick! You almost gave me a heart attack!” She put her hand over her heart dramatically.
The group laughed seeing Katniss’s reaction to his trick. Even Haymitch seemed more lucid than usual when he blatantly laughed through gritted teeth. “What can i do? This is the reaction that all have when they see me.” He simply told her with no troubles in getting the most charming words for his answer; it was more like a routine now. Ten years ago after being acclaimed as the victor of the 65th Hunger games, his hoax was already under his skin. Despite all, sometimes the tone of his voice was so boring that it was obvious even to him that he had enough for this situation. Just never to the Capitol citizens. They always seemed happy for seeing him or touching him or only listening to their voice, they just didn’t care and that’s why they were always so easy to please. Only with a cheeky smile they would forget the world around them.
“Oh please, Fishboy. Can’t you see you are scaring the Girl On Fire?” Johanna Mason’s voice took him off his own thoughts for a moment. He could sense the slyness in her voice that really made him smile when he heard that. Sneakily, he wrapped his arm around Katniss’s waist and pulled her closer to him in an awkward friendly hug. Taking a sugar-cube that he tied earlier to his fishing net suit during the parade, Finnick offered her one. “Sugar-cube?” It was a question somewhat familiar, but only because he had asked her that already a few hours ago. He could hear Peeta’s laughs who was probably watching the scene right in front of his eyes. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you. I was only joking.”
